Jacksonville is starting Friday mostly clear and around 78 degrees, but the calm morning will give way to a punishing afternoon. High temperatures are expected to reach about 95 degrees, while humidity could make it feel as hot as 110.
Heat Advisory Runs Through Friday Evening
A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday across Jacksonville and much of Northeast Florida. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville says dangerous heat and humidity will continue, with residents urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning and check on relatives and neighbors.
Showers and thunderstorms could develop after 1 p.m., with the best chances arriving during the afternoon and early evening. According to the National Weather Service Jacksonville, some storms may bring frequent lightning, heavy downpours and gusty winds, including isolated damaging gusts.
Warm Nights Offer Little Relief
Storm chances rise to about 60% Friday night before skies turn partly cloudy, with a low near 78 degrees. Saturday will look much like Friday: sunny and hot, with a high near 95 and a 40% chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
Sunday gets slightly hotter, reaching about 96 degrees with only a slight chance of storms. Monday and Tuesday could push temperatures to 98 and 99 degrees, respectively, while overnight lows remain near 79 to 80 degrees.
Outdoor Plans Should Center Around The Heat
The safest window for outdoor activity will be early in the day, before temperatures and heat index values peak. Anyone caught outside during a storm should move indoors immediately when thunder is heard, and drivers should use extra caution where heavy rain briefly reduces visibility.
