Jacksonville residents will have a new place to handle driver’s licenses, vehicle tags, property taxes and more when Duval County’s tax collector opens a larger branch at St. Johns Square next Monday. The move folds services from the recently shuttered Kernan office into a modern facility, with Hogan set to follow after its own closing in September.
Duval County Tax Collector Jim Overton announced the full-service branch will open Aug. 10 at St. Johns Square, according to News4JAX. The office replaces Kernan, which closed July 24, and is scheduled to replace the Hogan branch when that location closes Sept. 2.
What Jacksonville Customers Can Handle There
The new branch will offer driver license and ID services, including road tests, along with vehicle registration and title work, property tax payments, local business taxes, animal licenses, hunting and fishing licenses and parking citation payments, the Duval County Tax Collector says. The office will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and customers can schedule appointments or use the virtual “Join the Line” feature for same-day service.
This is a consolidation project, not simply another government counter appearing in the shopping center. The Jacksonville City Council approved $2.429 million to fund the relocation and consolidation of the Kernan and Hogan branches, along with a lease for roughly 13,080 square feet at the new site.
The city’s approved lease has an initial term running through September 2035, with renewal options, giving the branch a long runway in its new location. Customers looking to avoid an office visit can still use many tax collector services online around the clock, while vehicle registrations can be renewed at self-service kiosks in select Publix stores, according to News4JAX.
