A juvenile was shot in the arm inside a Raleigh vape shop Saturday afternoon, sending the victim to a hospital and leaving police with more questions than answers.
Officers received a call about the shooting around 2:44 p.m. in the 5100 block of Rock Quarry Road, according to WRAL. Raleigh police said officers found the juvenile inside the shop with a gunshot wound to the arm.
The juvenile was taken to a hospital for treatment, but police have not released additional information about the victim’s condition. Investigators had not identified a suspect or established a motive as of Saturday evening.
Raleigh Officials Already Weighing Youth Safety Measures
The shooting comes as Raleigh leaders are already responding to a wave of youth-related gun violence following Fourth of July weekend incidents. The City of Raleigh said nine people were shot and 29 were arrested across incidents involving large teen gatherings in Glenwood South, Brier Creek and along Capital Boulevard.
The City Council has directed the city attorney and Raleigh police to draft a curfew ordinance for minors 17 and younger, with further discussion planned for Aug. 18. It remains unclear whether Saturday’s shooting is connected to any other recent incident.
Investigation Remains Active
Police have not said whether anyone else was injured or described what led up to the shooting inside the business. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Raleigh police as investigators work to determine who fired the weapon and why.
