Texas Game Warden K9 Lola, her handler and a pilot with the department’s unmanned aircraft program were pulled into a law-enforcement search Monday night after an escape from the Erath County Jail. The unusual combination of a tracking dog and an aerial-systems operator was brought in as local and state agencies worked the case.
Texas Game Wardens said the team assisted law-enforcement partners in Erath County, but the initial public update did not identify the escapee, say how the person got out or confirm whether the person had been recaptured. The Erath County Jail is in Stephenville and is operated by the county sheriff’s office.

Why A Game Warden K9 And Drone Pilot Were Called In
Lola is trained for police search-and-rescue work, according to Gear Up for Game Wardens, which previously detailed her work tracking missing people across North Texas. Her deployment in an escape investigation suggests authorities were looking beyond the jail perimeter and into the surrounding rural terrain, although officials have not released the search area or described what Lola located.
Texas Parks and Wildlife has said its unmanned aircraft teams can provide thermal imaging and rapid aerial support in rural searches, where darkness, brush and wide-open ground can slow a traditional response. In a 2022 release, the department described an earlier Erath County operation in which a game warden used a thermal drone to help locate a missing man and guide deputies to him.
A Growing Role For Texas Game Warden Technology
The Erath County response follows another recent Texas case in which a Game Warden K9 and UAS pilot helped funnel armed-robbery suspects toward waiting troopers after a multi-mile search, as Hoodline reported. For now, the Erath County operation remains short on specifics, and any update on the escapee’s identity, custody status or possible charges will have to come from local authorities.
