NASA is throwing open the gates of one of its most storied pieces of real estate — the Shuttle Landing Facility at Kennedy Space Center — for a two-day aerospace expo and airshow called MAX POWER, scheduled for November 7 and 8. The event, unveiled Friday, will mix military flight demonstrations, commercial space technology displays, and public access to a runway that hosted 78 space shuttle landings during the program's history.
According to the National News Desk, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman announced the event as part of festivities tied to the United States' 250th anniversary, framing it as a showcase of “advances in aviation and spaceflight.” Isaacman said America has advanced “by building what did not exist, flying higher, moving faster, and reaching toward the near-impossible,” and noted the Shuttle Landing Facility will open to the public in November for the occasion. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels, who performed over the National Mall during Washington, D.C.'s Salute to America 250 Fourth of July celebrations, are among the acts expected to draw crowds, alongside the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
Florida Today reports the Thunderbirds quietly added Kennedy Space Center to their official 2026 demonstration schedule in late July, before NASA's formal name reveal — a sign that plans for what filings initially called the “Salute to America 250 Air Show” were already in motion. The event's eventual title, MAX POWER, has since taken on a life of its own online. As Space.com pointed out, the name coincidentally matches the alias Homer Simpson legally adopts in a 1999 episode of “The Simpsons,” a detail that quickly became a talking point on social media even though the name was chosen as a nod to high-energy aerospace technology.
A Runway With Shuttle-Era History
The venue itself carries decades of spaceflight weight. The Shuttle Landing Facility's 15,000-foot runway was built in the 1970s and hosted dozens of shuttle touchdowns before NASA retired the orbiter fleet. Per Hagerty Media, the strip was transferred to Space Florida in 2015 and rebranded as the Launch and Landing Facility, since used for commercial flight and automotive testing; the concrete runway stretches 3.2 miles including asphalt overruns, long enough that it was built to compensate for the curvature of the Earth.
That same tarmac will now double as an airshow stage. NASA's official announcement lists a roster of co-producers behind the event, including Air Dot Show, UP.Summit, Delaware North, Purpose Entertainment, and Space Florida — a public-private structure the agency is leaning on to help underwrite production costs. Lead air show producer Brian Lilley previously organized July's flyover in Washington, D.C., according to the space agency's release.
Separate Tickets, Separate Venues
Would-be attendees should brace for a more complicated entry process than a typical single-gate airshow. Spaceflight Now reports that MAX POWER will actually be split across three distinct venues, each requiring its own tickets. Private partner Delaware North is charging $69.38 per adult per day for access to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, a fee the outlet notes is designed to help fund event production without dipping into federally appropriated NASA funds.
The same outlet reports that Isaacman expressed high confidence in launching the Artemis III lunar mission in 2027, and flagged that the November airshow could overlap with the Space Launch System rocket's fueling demonstration rollout — meaning attendees might get an unusual close-up view of active lunar hardware even as NASA works to keep public crowds and rocket operations from colliding on the same calendar.
What It Means for Titusville and the Space Coast
Local tourism officials are bracing for a crowd. Citing estimates from the Space Coast Office of Tourism and the Tourism Development Council, Florida Today reports MAX POWER is expected to draw more than 50,000 out-of-county visitors to Brevard County, a scale that will test traffic and security planning across North Brevard.
Not everyone will need a ticket to catch a glimpse, however. Discover Titusville reports that performing aircraft are expected to fly down the middle of the Indian River during aerial acts, giving off-base spectators a view from both the Titusville mainland and nearby beaches, even as official security on NASA grounds stays tightly controlled.
The event also arrives amid a broader boom in Space Coast activity. The Office of U.S. Senator Ashley Moody noted in a release tied to the announcement that rocket launches from Florida's Space Coast have increased by more than 500% since 2016, a statistic state leaders are using to underscore the region's growing infrastructure investment. Isaacman, who commanded Inspiration4 — the world's first all-civilian orbital spaceflight mission — in 2021, has been a vocal promoter of public-facing flight demonstrations meant to inspire young engineers, according to NASA's official biography records.
