Kuiken Brothers, the family-owned lumber and building materials company that has operated in New Jersey since 1912, has announced an agreement to acquire Paramus Building Supply, picking up two Bergen County locations in Paramus and Bergenfield. The deal will expand Kuiken's footprint across North Jersey and hand the company more inventory and delivery capacity for contractors throughout the region.
The acquisition brings together two long-standing, family-run businesses in the trade supply industry, according to DailyVoice. Paramus Building Supply traces its roots to 1951, when brothers Fritz, Walter, and Donald Behnke founded the company on Route 17 and Century Road after their family sold its local vegetable farm, per the Paramus Fritz Behnke Historical Museum. Fritz Behnke went on to serve as Paramus's official town historian, and the borough's historical museum now bears his name.

The combination brings together the two organizations. Under the deal, Paramus Building Supply's existing teams will remain part of the operation, and Kuiken plans to retain and invest in the company's customer base and workforce while integrating aligned systems and logistics without sacrificing service quality.
From Eight Yards to Ten Total Locations
Before this deal, Kuiken Brothers operated eight locations spanning northern New Jersey and southern New York, including yards in Fair Lawn, Garfield, Midland Park, Ogdensburg, Roseland, Succasunna, Wantage, and Warwick, supported by a staff of more than 325 building materials specialists, according to Modern Distribution Management. Adding the Paramus and Bergenfield sites brings the network to 10 total facilities, including one in Warwick, New York, deepening delivery and warehouse logistics throughout Bergen County and the surrounding trade areas.
The acquisition adds two Bergen County locations to Kuiken Brothers' network. Kuiken Brothers has said the deal is expected to support continued expansion elsewhere in the state, with plans to push into coastal and Jersey Shore markets and north into the Hudson Valley.
A History of Growing Through Acquisition
This isn't Kuiken's first move to expand by buying up an established regional yard. In June 2008, the company acquired Lumber 1, a lumberyard and hardware supplier in Roseland. The company has also invested in its facilities over time.
The deal brings shared inventory, trucks, employees, and expertise to the two locations coming over from Paramus Building Supply.
Timed to a New Jersey Building Boom
The deal expands Kuiken Brothers' market coverage in New Jersey.
According to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Construction Reporter, nearly 23,592 permits were issued by construction departments statewide in December 2024, including authorization for 2,099 new houses.
Paramus Building Supply's inventory includes a range of building materials. The acquisition brings that inventory into the combined operation.
Kuiken Brothers enters the deal with a long history in the industry. The company is also scheduled to host its 13th Live Product Expo on October 29, 2026, at Birchwood Manor in Whippany, an event expected to draw more than 1,500 contractors, remodelers, architects, and designers for installation clinics and manufacturer displays.
Financial terms of the Paramus Building Supply acquisition have not been disclosed, and a target closing date has not been announced. It also remains to be seen how Kuiken will manage overlapping trade territory between its nearby Emerson yard and the incoming Paramus and Bergenfield locations.
