Zanieyah Brown, the 16-year-old who vanished from the Bell Rock Place area of Land O' Lakes five days earlier, has been found safe. The teenager was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on August 20, carrying a black backpack and a white trash bag filled with unknown items, before deputies lost track of her whereabouts entirely.
The Pasco Sheriff's Office confirmed the update Tuesday night in a post from its official account, writing simply that Brown had been found and is safe, according to Pasco Sheriff. The agency had first gone public with the search on August 21, a day after Brown disappeared, describing her as 5-foot-8, about 170 pounds, with red hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a black two-piece tracksuit, per the Pasco Sheriff's Office. That gap between disappearance and public alert reflects the routine timeline deputies follow before broadcasting a case widely, even as the search itself begins immediately behind the scenes.

Why Deputies Moved Fast From the Start
Florida law leaves no room for delay when a minor goes missing. Under Florida Statute § 937.021, law enforcement agencies must accept a missing child report right away and enter the case into state and national databases within two hours, according to the Florida Senate. A separate statute, § 937.0201, classifies anyone under 18 who goes missing as both a missing child and a missing endangered person, which guarantees full investigative resources regardless of whether the teen is suspected of having run away on their own.
Land O' Lakes sits within the sheriff's office's District 2, an eastern patrol division spanning roughly 490 square miles broken into 11 zones averaging 44 square miles apiece, per the same account. That kind of ground helps explain why searches for missing teens in eastern Pasco County can stretch across days even with deputies working the case from the outset.
A Warning for Anyone Who Might Shelter a Runaway
Florida law also carries consequences for adults who take in a missing teen without notifying parents or police. Under Florida Statute § 984.085, knowingly harboring an unmarried minor runaway for more than 24 hours, or helping them secure lodging without parental consent, is a first-degree misdemeanor, the Florida Senate's statutes show. The sheriff's office asked the public for information on Brown's whereabouts while the search was active and directed tips to its online portal at pascosheriff.com/tips or to a non-emergency line at (727) 847-8102, option 7, while noting that its social media account is not monitored around the clock and that emergencies should always go to 911.
Part of a Broader Pattern Across Pasco County
Brown's case is the latest in a string of missing-teen reports Pasco County deputies have fielded in Land O' Lakes, Dade City, Holiday and Wesley Chapel just this August, as Hoodline has reported. Just a day before Brown's case became public, Hoodline covered another missing 16-year-old out of Dade City, and earlier in the month a 13-year-old in Wesley Chapel and a 16-year-old in Holiday were both reported missing before turning up safe or remaining under active search. Land O' Lakes itself saw a similar case just weeks earlier, when 17-year-old Ceriah Stanley went missing in the same area, and a year before that, in August 2025, a 16-year-old runaway named De'Cordaisa Lloyd was also sought by deputies in Land O' Lakes.
The resolution of Brown's search also landed the same day state officials announced the close of Operation Statewide Shield, a five-day multi-agency effort that located and recovered 163 missing children across Florida, including 46 in the Tampa Bay region, according to My Florida Legal. The Florida Crime Information Center recorded 53,331 total missing person reports statewide in 2023, per the Florida Missing Children's Day initiative, and national data from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children shows endangered runaways make up roughly 90 percent of the cases it assists with, with more than 90 percent of missing children ultimately recovered safely. Brown's outcome fits that broader national pattern, even as her disappearance adds to a busy month for Pasco County deputies working juvenile cases across the district.
