Las Vegas police are investigating an officer-involved shooting near the Interstate 11 underpass on Mountain Vista Street, marking the department’s ninth such incident of 2026. The initial alert offered few details about what led to the gunfire or whether anyone was injured.
LVMPD said Wednesday that the shooting happened near the Mountain Vista underpass and described it as the ninth officer-involved shooting investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department this year. The department said additional information would be provided, but did not initially identify the officer or other person involved.
Metro also posted a briefing video titled “LVMPD Investigates 9th OIS”. As of the initial announcement, authorities had not publicly released a timeline, information about any arrests, or the condition of anyone involved.

The incident comes after LVMPD recorded seven officer-involved shootings during all of 2025 and 17 in 2024, according to an earlier report by KTNV. That makes the department’s 2026 tally notable even before the year is halfway finished, although the circumstances and outcomes of the incidents have varied.
The investigation remains active, and the most important unanswered questions involve what officers were responding to, whether shots were fired by more than one person, and whether anyone was wounded.
