A Laurel man is facing charges after Anne Arundel County Police say they found a loaded 9mm handgun inside his car during a traffic stop in Severn on Wednesday afternoon. Officers stopped a black Ford Taurus near Falcon Point Drive and Jacobs Road at about 3:15 p.m., and police say the search turned up the weapon in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
The driver, identified by police as 34-year-old Roosevelt Jerome Brown, was arrested after officers recovered the loaded handgun, according to WBFF. Brown was charged following the stop, per police. The Anne Arundel County Police Department confirmed the arrest was handled by Western District officers under case number 26-727246 tied to the August 26 stop.
A Street With a History of Gun Seizures
The handgun recovered from Brown's vehicle was a Trabzon, a product of TİSAŞ, a Turkey-based manufacturer that exports semi-automatic handguns to more than 70 countries and opened a U.S. operational headquarters in Buford, Georgia, in February. Falcon Point Drive, where the stop took place, sits within Jacobs Forest, a suburban townhome development near Reece Road in Severn, tucked between Fort Meade and BWI Marshall Airport.
This isn't the first time the street has produced a gun bust. In December 2021, police seized a loaded .38-caliber Hi-Point handgun during a traffic stop in the same area, and a January 2022 stop nearby yielded a loaded .40-caliber Polymer 80 handgun. The recurring seizures point to a pattern of proactive traffic enforcement along that residential corridor.
What Maryland Law Says About Guns in Cars
Under Maryland Criminal Law Code § 4-203, wearing, carrying, or knowingly transporting a handgun in a vehicle on public roads or public-access parking lots is illegal, with a first-time conviction carrying a misdemeanor penalty of up to three years in prison and fines up to $2,500. Separately, Maryland Code § 4-206 gives officers who reasonably suspect someone is illegally transporting a handgun and poses a potential danger the authority to conduct targeted inquiries and vehicle searches without a warrant, which is the statutory basis for the kind of roadside search that led to Brown's arrest.
The Western District, which handled the stop, operates out of a station at 8273 Telegraph Road in Odenton and provides primary police coverage for Severn, Hanover, and Fort Meade. It remains unclear what initial moving or equipment violation prompted officers to pull over the Taurus, and police have not said whether the recovered handgun was legally owned or reported stolen.
Part of a Wider Pattern in the Area
Brown's arrest follows a similar case in nearby Laurel, where Anne Arundel County officers arrested a 24-year-old Silver Spring man in July after finding a loaded 9mm handgun hidden under the driver's seat during a routine stop, as Hoodline previously reported. Severn in particular has seen a string of firearms-related incidents this month, including a shooting and barricade situation that left a Severn man facing 17 charges, a carjacking of a Severn commuter, and teenagers who allegedly pulled a gun on a pizza delivery driver.
Even so, countywide violent vehicle crime trended downward last year. Carjackings across Anne Arundel County fell 27% in 2025, dropping to 16 from 22 in 2024, a decline police credited to expanded use of automated license plate readers and data-driven patrol strategies. The Anne Arundel County Police Department maintains an anonymous tip line at 410-222-4700 for residents to report illegal weapons, narcotics, or violent crime in Western District neighborhoods.
