Akron families can turn one Thursday afternoon into a back-to-school supply run, a health check and a shot at winning a laptop. The LeBron James Family Foundation’s annual giveaway is returning with free book bags, school supplies and a full slate of kid-friendly activities.
The Better Together Book Bag Giveaway will run this Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. at House Three Thirty, with free book bags packed with school supplies for attendees. According to Cleveland.com, JPMorgan Chase is sponsoring the event, which House Three Thirty has hosted for four years; about 2,000 students received book bags at last year’s event.
A Back-To-School Event With A Full Itinerary
Families will receive a passport when they arrive and can collect a stamp at each of roughly 20 nonprofit information tables. Completed passports can be entered into a drawing for laptops and other prizes, while a DJ, games and children’s activities keep the afternoon from feeling like a particularly earnest school-supply aisle.
The event will also feature free Mitchell’s ice cream for its first attendees, with pizza available for purchase and House Three Thirty’s Starbucks open during the giveaway. Free on-site parking will be available, according to the event details.
Health Checks And Credit Help Join The Giveaway
Children can visit the adjacent I PROMISE HealthQuarters for free flu and COVID-19 testing, well-child checks, sports physicals and work-permit physicals. Cleveland.com reports that families will also be able to make future appointments, while Coleman Health Services describes the facility as a community health center serving Summit County residents regardless of insurance coverage.
Ace Epps will lead a free workshop at the JPMorgan Chase branch on understanding and building credit. The session is intended to help families make stronger financial decisions and better understand how credit can factor into longer-term goals such as buying a home, a focus that fits House Three Thirty’s broader financial-health and job-training mission, as outlined by the LeBron James Family Foundation.
