A Long Beach shooting that left two men wounded outside a liquor store has become a deadly case: William Davis, 44, died at a hospital weeks after the July 10 gunfire, while a 24-year-old man remains jailed on attempted murder charges. Davis’ death could now push the case toward a murder filing, though police have not announced that charge has been filed.
The shooting was reported around 7:15 a.m. July 10 near Anaheim Street and Cedar Avenue. Officers found two adult men with upper-body gunshot wounds, and Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported both victims to a hospital, according to the Long Beach Post, which reported that police had taped off the northeast corner of a strip mall where a liquor-store window was shattered.
Homicide detectives later identified Brian Medina as the suspect, and Special Investigation Division detectives arrested him July 10 in the 2300 block of Linden Avenue, according to MyNewsLA. Medina, a Long Beach resident, was booked and later charged with two counts of attempted murder.
Police were notified Thursday, July 30, that Davis had died at the hospital. The circumstances of the shooting and the motive remain under investigation, and authorities have not publicly explained what led to the gunfire.
Possible Murder Charge Could Follow Davis’ Death
Medina was being held in lieu of $3.205 million bail, MyNewsLA reported. Because one of the wounded men has now died, police said Medina could face a possible murder charge, although the update did not state that prosecutors had filed one.
