A bridge on Long Creek Road in Gaston County is headed for a full shutdown later this month, with every lane closing in both directions while crews handle maintenance work. The closure will hit near Wandering Lane and is scheduled to last more than a month, making this a detour motorists will want on their radar before it becomes a roadside surprise.
According to NCDOT Charlotte Area, the closure is set to begin at 8 a.m. Monday and continue until 3 p.m. Friday, September 18. The department says the road will be closed at a bridge for maintenance repairs, leaving no open lane through the work zone.

Drivers Will Need To Follow A Signed Detour
The detour starts by sending motorists toward Lewis Farm Road on Long Creek Road for about half a mile. Drivers will then turn left onto Lewis Farm Road and continue roughly 1.4 miles before turning right onto Bessemer City Kings Mountain Highway, or N.C. 161, for about 30 feet, with the destination on the left.
Because the closure covers both directions, local trips through this stretch will need to use the alternate route for the duration of the project. Drivers should allow extra time, watch for changing signs and avoid entering the bridge work area while crews are present.
Motorists can check DriveNC.gov for real-time traffic conditions before heading out. The signed detour is expected to guide drivers around the closure, but travel times may vary depending on traffic and construction activity.
