Lower Merion’s National Night Out festival is taking over Suburban Square in Ardmore tonight, bringing police, firefighters, ambulance crews and a carnival’s worth of family entertainment to a new venue. The free event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with food donations and police-community connection sharing the bill with funnel cake and carnival rides.
According to a Lower Merion Police Department reminder, attendees can meet local first responders, check out police motorcycles and emergency equipment, and enjoy games, giveaways and live music. Organizers are also asking visitors to bring a bag of non-perishable food for ElderNet’s food pantry and drop it off at the Lower Merion police table.
New Ardmore Venue Brings National Night Out To Suburban Square
This year’s festival is moving to Suburban Square for the first time, a shift that puts the community gathering in one of Ardmore’s busiest public spaces. The free event is hosted by the National Association of Town Watch with Lower Merion Community Watch, and Patch reports that local police, fire companies and Narberth Ambulance will be on hand.
The family lineup includes clowns, jugglers, face painters, a magician, a moon bounce, carnival rides, games, food and funnel cake. The Lower Merion School District says its table will offer back-to-school checklists, activity books and giveaways, along with a chance to ask district administrators questions.
National Night Out is designed to make public-safety conversations feel less like a briefing and more like a neighborhood gathering. The National Association of Town Watch says the campaign began in 1984 and grew out of community-watch efforts in the western Philadelphia suburbs, giving Lower Merion’s annual festival an especially local origin story.
