A man was killed after being shot multiple times Monday evening at a West Philadelphia intersection, police said, in a homicide near a corner already marked by a deadly June gunfight. The victim died at Lankenau Hospital shortly after officers found him wounded.
The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. at North 54th and Arlington streets, according to CBS Philadelphia. Officers found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body and took him to Lankenau, where he was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m. The initial report did not identify the victim.
No arrests had been made, and police said a motive had not been identified. The circumstances leading up to the gunfire remain unclear.
Same Intersection Saw Three Officers Wounded In June
The location also drew attention on June 13, when three Philadelphia police officers were wounded in an exchange of gunfire and a man was killed. The Philadelphia Police Department's official summary says officers had been investigating another report of gunfire near the intersection when that confrontation escalated; Monday's initial report did not identify any connection between the two cases.
