A report of a car crash on Sanders Lane turned into a homicide investigation on Thursday when Louisville police arrived and found a man inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, marking a deadly incident in the Cloverleaf neighborhood in southwest Louisville.
Louisville Metro Police officers responded to the 1500 block of Sanders Lane around 6:30 p.m. Thursday after reports of a vehicle crash. WHAS11 also covered the incident. Emergency crews rushed the man to University Hospital, where he later died, as reported by WDRB. UofL Hospital operates the region's main Level 1 adult trauma center.
Police told WLKY there are no known suspects at this time, and the LMPD Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673), or submit information anonymously through LMPD's online Crime Tip Portal.
A Neighborhood Already on Edge
The 1500 block of Sanders Lane sits in the Cloverleaf neighborhood. Gutermuth Elementary School is a Jefferson County Public Schools campus. The shooting comes just a month after another deadly incident shook the same neighborhood: 14-year-old Jahlil Brown was fatally shot and another teenager wounded on July 11 following an altercation in the 700 block of Gagel Avenue, according to WHAS11's coverage of that case. That incident reportedly followed an altercation.
Police are investigating the shooting, with the LMPD Homicide Unit leading the case.
Citywide Numbers Tell a Different Story
The broader citywide picture remains a focus of crime reporting. Louisville homicides fell about 22% in 2025, dropping to approximately 114 recorded killings compared to approximately 144 in 2024, while Hoodline previously reported on Louisville's non-fatal shootings. The figures do not identify a specific initiative as the cause of the decline.

Thursday's shooting remains under investigation.
