A man was rushed to the hospital with a stab wound early Saturday after a fight turned violent in the 6000 block of Atlantic Avenue in North Long Beach, and the person accused of stabbing him remains on the run. Police say the victim's vital signs were stable when paramedics took him in for treatment, but the attacker had already fled by the time officers arrived.
Long Beach police officers were dispatched to the stabbing report around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, according to MyNewsLA.com. Officers arrived to find the man suffering from an upper-body stab wound, and paramedics transported him to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Authorities say the injury stemmed from a fight between the victim and a male adult suspect, though the suspect's identity remains under investigation and the circumstances that sparked the altercation have not been disclosed.
A Familiar Stretch of Atlantic Avenue
The 6000 block sits squarely within the service area of the Long Beach Police Department's North Patrol Division, which is headquartered just blocks away at 4891 Atlantic Avenue. It is not the first time this stretch of the corridor has seen a late-night altercation escalate into a stabbing. In December 2023, police investigated a non-life-threatening stabbing in the nearby 5100 block of Atlantic Avenue, also following an early-morning physical dispute in which the suspect got away.
More recently, detectives in June linked a suspect already in custody to a separate May stabbing on California Avenue in North Long Beach, re-booking him on an attempted murder hold after a woman was stabbed in both her upper and lower body. That case showed investigators can build on earlier arrests to close out related incidents, even when a suspect initially escapes the scene.
A Violent Summer Citywide
Saturday's stabbing adds to what has been a violent stretch for Long Beach. Police investigated five reported stabbings or attempted stabbings and two homicides citywide during the month of July alone, according to Long Beach Local News. That comes even as some patrol divisions have posted improvement: LBPD data show the South Division's aggravated assaults dropped 25 percent, from 32 incidents in January 2024 to 24 in January 2025.
The stabbing also comes as the city pours resources into revitalizing the Atlantic Avenue corridor itself. The city demolished blighted commercial structures at 5641–5649 Atlantic Avenue last year to eliminate public hazards and encourage redevelopment. The corridor is also a focus of Long Beach's Elevate '28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a $1 billion effort funded by Measure A sales tax revenue meant to upgrade streetscapes and public safety between Ocean Boulevard and the 405 Freeway.

As of now, the investigation into Saturday's stabbing remains open, and no suspect information has been released. It is unclear whether the victim and the suspect knew each other, or what triggered the fight that led to the stabbing.
