A 14-month-old child died Saturday after being struck by a pickup truck in a Meadow Vista driveway, according to the California Highway Patrol. The fatal collision happened at a family home in Placer County, turning an ordinary afternoon into a devastating emergency.
KCRA reported that CHP officers were called to the home around 2:35 p.m. Saturday after the child’s father moved the pickup within the driveway. The father reportedly felt an impact, stopped immediately and notified the child’s mother.
The child’s mother called 911, and fire department personnel declared the child dead at the scene. CHP said investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, though the circumstances remain under investigation.
CHP Investigating Meadow Vista Driveway Collision
The crash occurred in the area served by the CHP Auburn Area office, which says its responsibilities include investigating traffic collisions in unincorporated Placer County. Investigators have not publicly released additional details about how the child came into the path of the truck.
Captain Andy Beasley said the California Highway Patrol extends “its deepest condolences to the child’s family during this extraordinarily difficult time.” The investigation is continuing, and the initial report did not indicate that authorities had announced any arrests or charges.
