Orlando woke to clear skies and temperatures around 81 degrees Tuesday morning, but the easy start will give way to dangerous heat by late morning. A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the heat index expected to reach 108 to 110 degrees across east central Florida.
Scorching Afternoon, Storms After 2 P.M.
Temperatures will climb to about 95 degrees under mostly sunny skies, with the worst heat arriving during the afternoon. A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms begins after 2 p.m., and any stronger storm could bring frequent lightning, wind gusts of 30 to 50 mph and locally heavy rain.
Storm chances should fade after about 8 p.m., leaving a partly cloudy night with a low near 77 degrees. Southwest winds will remain light, generally between 0 and 5 mph, which will do little to make the heat feel less oppressive.
Hot Pattern Sticks Around Through Monday
Wednesday and Thursday will again reach about 95 degrees, with afternoon storm chances near 30%. Friday looks slightly stormier, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, while Saturday is forecast to be sunny and Sunday and Monday bring only limited afternoon storm chances.
Overnight lows will mostly stay in the upper 70s, keeping the area from getting much of a break. National Weather Service expects heat-index values near or above advisory levels through at least Friday, so outdoor work and strenuous activities are best moved to early morning or evening when possible.
Heat Safety Remains The Main Concern
Drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning, and wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles, and anyone showing signs of heat stroke—including confusion, fainting or very hot skin—needs emergency medical help.
