A Milwaukee man who was released on parole after a child-sex-assault conviction has been missing from required law-enforcement check-ins since 2020, and U.S. Marshals are now putting his name and face back in front of Wisconsin residents. Investigators believe Mario Douglas, 40, may still be in the Milwaukee area.
According to FOX6 News Milwaukee, Douglas went on parole in 2018 and stopped reporting to law enforcement two years later. Marshals say he is required to register as a sex offender for life and that the underlying case involved a 14-year-old girl he met in Milwaukee’s Harambee neighborhood in 2013.
The Case Has A Complicated Court History
A 2018 opinion from the Wisconsin Court of Appeals says Douglas entered a guilty plea to second-degree sexual assault of a child and received an 18-year sentence, including 12 years of initial confinement and six years of extended supervision. The opinion also reversed the judgment in part and sent the case back to the trial court after finding that Douglas had been incorrectly advised about the potential sentences he faced.
That procedural history is separate from the current fugitive search. FOX6 reported that Marshals are seeking Douglas as a lifetime registrant who stopped checking in, while also describing a broader criminal history involving drugs, fleeing and resisting arrest.
Marshals Believe Douglas Could Still Be In Milwaukee
Douglas is also known by the nickname “Rio,” according to FOX6. Investigators say he has the word “Cash” tattooed on the right side of his neck, is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs roughly 160 pounds.
