Jacksonville is getting a night of cosmic brain food next spring, when astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson brings his “Search for Life in the Universe” event to the Florida Theatre. The one-night appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, March 17, 2027, at 7:30 p.m., giving local audiences a front-row seat for a wide-ranging conversation about science, exploration and the universe.
According to Action News Jax, tickets are available through the Florida Theatre and its box office, with a Meet & Greet/VIP package also offered. The venue’s official event listing says doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Tyson Will Connect Science To Everyday Headlines
The event is being billed as more than a lecture about distant planets and possible alien life. The Florida Theatre says the program will explore how scientific literacy changes the way people understand the world, including the funny, illuminating and alarming sides of current events.
That makes the Jacksonville stop part astronomy talk, part public conversation and part reality check. Tyson’s knack for translating complicated ideas into accessible language should fit comfortably inside the historic downtown venue, where the biggest question of the night may be whether humanity is alone—or simply very bad at answering cosmic emails.
Tyson brings plenty of credentials to the stage. The American Museum of Natural History lists him as an astrophysicist and the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium, while Action News Jax notes that he is also a research associate in the museum’s Department of Astrophysics. His recent books include Starry Messenger: Cosmic Perspectives on Civilization and To Infinity and Beyond: A Journey of Cosmic Discovery, co-written with Lindsey Nyx Walker.

The official Florida Theatre listing indicates tickets went on sale Friday, with sales handled through the venue’s ticketing system. Buyers can also contact the box office at 904-355-2787, according to the local event announcement.
