The Villa is getting a new name, a new front, and a beefier sports-bar setup—but the Gruene hangout is not going anywhere. The local live-music venue became Duesy's Tavern on Friday, keeping its events and amenities while its owners give the brand a fresh coat of identity. In other words, the bar is changing its sign without canceling the party.
Owner Casey Frank told Community Impact that The Villa no longer matched the space's aesthetic and that the business had outgrown its old name. The building's front is also being renovated to make it feel more inviting, with new bronze details planned for the exterior.
Duesy's Keeps The Music And Adds More Screens
The venue's own official website describes Duesy's as the former Villa while preserving the same basic pitch: live music, sports, trivia, open mic nights, music bingo and other in-house events. The site also lists 14 televisions, pool tables, darts, Golden Tee, cornhole and a pet-friendly patio, giving the rebrand a distinctly watch-party-friendly flavor.
That continuity matters because Frank had already spent the past few years reshaping the property. In a 2025 interview with Voyage Austin, she said she acquired the business in early 2024 after it had operated as The Vineyard at Gruene, then moved it toward a full-service bar and live-music venue with a stronger neighborhood-hangout identity.
A Rebrand That Mirrors The Venue's Growth
The latest changes are being presented as an expansion rather than a replacement. Frank told Community Impact that Duesy's will add several televisions and upgrade its audio-visual system, while she hopes to make the venue a one-stop gathering place for friends, families and loved ones.
The next phase may reach beyond the freshly renovated facade: Duesy's current website says a side bar is in the city's permitting process and is expected to be completed by spring 2027. If that timeline holds, Friday's name change could be less of a reset than the opening move in a much larger Gruene build-out.
