A new food-and-drink pairing is taking shape in El Paso’s Five Points neighborhood, where Mijos Tacos is moving from food-truck favorite toward a permanent home next door to the new El Luchador bar. The project could give local diners a fresh place to grab tacos, watch football and stick around for the rest of the evening.
According to KVIA, NFL player Will Hernandez and Derek Elmendorff launched the Mijos Tacos truck more than a year ago and are now expanding into a brick-and-mortar restaurant. The restaurant is still waiting on permits, but the owners expect it to open in time for football season, with El Luchador opening next door.
A Taco Spot Built For Football Season
The official Mijos Tacos site pitches a menu that goes beyond tacos, including hot dogs, burgers, wings, and smoked meats such as brisket, pork belly, barbacoa, and lengua. That broader lineup fits the owners’ plan to create more of a gathering spot than a quick stop at the truck window.
The location also places the project inside one of El Paso’s established commercial corridors. The Five Points Development Association describes the business district as centered around Piedras, Pershing, and Elm, while KVIA reports that Hernandez and Elmendorff—former UTEP roommates—want the new bar to host influencers, NFL players, and community activities.
There is no public opening date yet, and the city’s food-establishment application materials say operators must meet local health and licensing requirements before opening. For now, football season is the target, leaving Five Points with a new restaurant-and-bar partnership to watch as Mijos Tacos tries to turn its mobile following into a permanent neighborhood crowd.
