Tuesday Starts Clear, Turns Hot
Morning conditions will stay sunny before a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after noon. South winds around 5 to 10 mph may offer little relief from the heat, and no watches, warnings or advisories are currently listed for the Houston area.
The rain risk is only about 20%, meaning most neighborhoods will likely stay dry. Any storms that do form should be isolated, with the best chance during the afternoon and early evening; Tuesday night should turn mostly clear after a small chance of storms before 8 p.m., with lows near 79.
Heat Tightens Its Grip By The Weekend
The hotter, drier pattern builds Wednesday, when Houston could reach 96 degrees under mostly sunny skies, followed by another sunny 96-degree day Thursday. Friday should top out near 95, while Saturday and Sunday could reach 97, with Monday forecast near 98.
The National Weather Service Houston/Galveston office says heat stress will increase this weekend into early next week, with heat-index readings commonly running from 100 to 107 and some spots potentially reaching triple-digit temperatures.
Outdoor Plans Need A Heat Strategy
Anyone working or exercising outside should plan frequent water and shade breaks, especially during the afternoon peak. Check on older neighbors and people without reliable air conditioning, and remember that a mostly sunny forecast does not make this heat any less demanding.
