A longtime Spring swim club could soon trade its 1988-era pool and pool house for a $9.7 million makeover packed with eight lap lanes, a splash pad, water slides and a new recreation center. Construction could begin in November, setting up a major rebuild for a members-only facility that anchors swim-team and tennis activity in north Houston.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the Forest Oaks Swim and Racquet Club is expected to undergo demolition of its existing pool, canopies and support buildings before the new 10,586-square-foot complex rises in their place. The project is tied to a recent Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, though the submitted details could still change.
New Pool Brings Slides, Splash Pad And Eight Lanes
The Harris County Water Control and Improvement District 110 board approved a multi-phase master plan in January 2026 covering improvements to the club’s pool, pool house, fitness center and clubhouse. The district’s master plan page describes the first phase as a new pool and recreation building designed to serve both everyday members and organized sports.
The proposed pool will include eight lap lanes, a zero-depth entry, new diving blocks, upgraded heating and aeration systems, and a deep well with double-flume slides roughly 8 to 9 feet tall. A splash pad with water features and a safety surface is also planned, giving smaller children their own watery territory while competitive swimmers get dedicated lanes.
Recreation Building Adds Shade, Storage And Viewing Space
The new recreation building is planned to include extended shade structures with fans and mister systems, new bathrooms, outdoor showers, swim-team storage and dedicated space for the Rivera Tennis Academy. Plans also call for an event space with a kitchenette, audio-visual equipment and access from the pool deck and tennis courts.
A second-floor viewing deck will overlook both the pool and tennis areas, while a new guard office, equipment storage, tennis-pro office and emergency generator round out the building. The district says GPD Group is handling architecture, Landmark Aquatics is serving as pool consultant and Langford Engineering is overseeing engineering and stormwater work.
Members Face A Dry 2027 Summer
The existing pool is expected to close for the 2027 summer season while crews demolish the old facilities and build the replacement. Club officials are discussing reduced membership rates or extensions for active members during the shutdown, according to the district’s project timeline, and the Forest Oaks Swim Team is expected to arrange alternate practice sites and away meets.
The district’s schedule calls for substantial completion in August 2027, with closeout work continuing through December. The pool is expected to reopen for Forest Oaks Swim Team practices in April 2028, while the club’s broader master plan continues beyond the first phase.
Forest Oaks currently serves the Forest Oaks Swim Team Barracudas and the Rivera Tennis Academy, making the overhaul more than a cosmetic refresh for a neighborhood amenity. It is a long-planned attempt to turn an aging 1988 facility into a more flexible recreation hub for swimmers, families and racquet-sports players.
