
An 18-year-old Jennings County High School senior died early Thursday morning after the pickup truck he was driving left the roadway and rolled over multiple times in rural Spencer Township, according to investigators. Austin Luedeman, a North Vernon resident, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was identified as the victim. The Jennings County Sheriff's Office says its investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing.
According to investigators cited by WAVE News, Luedeman's 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck left the north side of the road, crossed both lanes after he appeared to overcorrect, then went off the south side of the roadway before rolling over. Officers were called to the scene at approximately 6:41 a.m. on Thursday, per the Jennings County Sheriff's Office. Officers were called to the scene along with five other agencies — Jennings County EMS, Spencer Township Fire Department, the Jennings County Coroner's Office, Lucas Wrecker Service, and Jennings County Dispatch.
Law enforcement officials say alcohol and drugs are not currently suspected as factors in the crash. Jennings County officials said the investigation is ongoing.

Jennings County High School released a statement expressing sadness over Luedeman's passing. The school remembered him as an exceptional student with a strong work ethic, integrity, and a willingness to help others, adding that his positive presence will be deeply missed by his classmates, teachers, and the entire school community, the school corporation said.
School administrators said student and staff well-being is their highest priority, and counselors are available to provide grief support and a safe space for students processing the loss. The school also requested privacy for Luedeman's family and asked the community to keep them in their thoughts as they grieve.
Fundraising for Funeral Costs
Luedeman's mother and her fiance have organized fundraising to help cover funeral expenses. Fundraising efforts aim to raise approximately $4,600, with donations accepted through GoFundMe, at Centra Credit Union in North Vernon, or directly through Dove-Sharp Funeral Home, according to The Republic News.
