New York City's Fashion Institute of Technology will host the 8th annual Global Beauty & Fashion Tech Forum on September 28, 2026, bringing together beauty executives, entrepreneurs, investors and students for a day built around one theme: turning emerging technology into real business results. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at FIT's Haft Theater at the School of Graduate Studies, with a separate afternoon session from 2 to 5 p.m. dedicated to a live startup pitch competition offering a $1 million investment prize.
The forum is organized by Perfect Corp., the AI and AR beauty and fashion technology company behind the YouCam suite of virtual try-on apps, according to Eagle-Tribune. Perfect Corp. has partnered with FIT's School of Graduate Studies to host the event, and the school serves as an interdisciplinary hub for research and collaboration across the creative industries. FIT, part of the State University of New York system, offers nearly 30 majors and graduate degrees spanning fashion design, textiles, museum studies, exhibition design, illustration, and global fashion and beauty marketing and management.
A Pitch Competition With a Seven-Figure Prize
The afternoon program features the Startup World Cup NYC Regional Competition, hosted by Pegasus Tech Ventures, where selected founders will pitch live before investors and industry leaders. The session also includes expert discussions on entrepreneurship and investment. Winners of regional pitch events like this one advance toward the global Startup World Cup Grand Finale, which Pegasus Tech Ventures will hold November 4-6, 2026, at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, where 200 regional champions will compete for a $1 million equity investment prize.
The stakes of that global stage were on full display last year, when San Leandro-based Coreshell Technologies won the $1 million grand prize at the 2025 Grand Finale after competing against more than 10,000 global startups, per California's Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development. The electric vehicle battery innovator had advanced from a Northern California regional pitch before taking the global title. Other regional qualifiers have played out around the country this year, including a Philadelphia competition where BioLattice led the city's field of founders vying for a shot at the same global stage.
Beauty Tech's Fast-Growing Market Backdrop
The New York forum arrives as the beauty tech sector experiences rapid expansion. The global beauty tech market was valued at $66.2 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $172.9 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 17.9 percent, according to Grand View Research. Within that broader market, the segment specifically covering artificial intelligence in beauty and cosmetics was valued at $2.7 billion in 2023 and is projected to hit $16.4 billion by 2033, expanding at nearly 20 percent annually, Forbes reports.
Perfect Corp. has positioned itself at the center of that growth. The company offers virtual try-on experiences for makeup, hair, jewelry, watches and fashion accessories, along with AI-powered skin and hair analysis tools, and counts more than 700 global brand partners. Its consumer-facing YouCam suite of mobile apps has surpassed 1 billion global downloads, with users generating more than 1.68 billion virtual product try-ons per month, the company has said. Perfect Corp. reported $69.2 million in total revenue for full-year 2025, a 14.9 percent increase over 2024 that the company attributed primarily to demand for its AI- and AR-cloud subscription solutions and YouCam mobile applications, per Business Wire.
A Forum Timed to a Corporate Turning Point
This year's forum lands amid a major shift for Perfect Corp. itself. In July 2026, the company agreed to a going-private merger with ProjectNY, an entity controlled by founder and CEO Alice Chang, offering shareholders $2.00 per share in cash and valuing the company's equity at roughly $204 million, according to a statement from Perfect Corp.'s investor relations office. As reported by Retail Dive, the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 and would take the company off the New York Stock Exchange, where it had listed in late 2022 via a SPAC merger.
Perfect Corp. was founded in 2015 in New Taipei City, Taiwan, by Chang as a spinoff from digital media software provider CyberLink, which still holds a substantial voting stake and equity interest in the company, according to GuruFocus. This year's forum also brings in Cosmetic Executive Women as an official event partner alongside FIT and Pegasus Tech Ventures, according to a promotional notice compiled by Milled. CEW is a major trade association representing executives across the beauty and cosmetics industries.
The New York forum has run in various formats since its debut, including a 2023 conference held at Convene in Manhattan and a 2024 West Coast edition that featured speakers from Benefit Cosmetics, Google and Obsess. Perfect Corp. holds both in-person and virtual versions of the forum to showcase emerging retail technologies. This year's event will bring beauty and fashion executives, entrepreneurs, technology innovators, investors, students and creative professionals together under one roof to cover AI innovation, retail innovation, entrepreneurship and technology commercialization.
