A house party in Oak Park ended in a deadly burst of gunfire this morning, leaving two young people dead and a third person wounded. The shooting happened as the gathering was believed to be underway, turning a residential block near Coolidge Highway into an active crime scene.
According to The Metro Detroit News, police found a male and female victim at the home, both believed to be about 18 or 19 years old. A third female victim was hospitalized with injuries considered non-life-threatening.
Investigators Review Surveillance Footage
The investigation remains focused on reconstructing what happened inside and outside the house. Investigators were interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage and examining several shell casings found outside the residence, according to the initial report.
Another Metro Detroit Party Shooting Left One Dead
The Oak Park shooting follows a deadly house-party shooting in nearby Hazel Park on May 29. ClickOnDetroit reported that a 20-year-old man was killed and a 19-year-old woman wounded after police said a dispute led to gunfire at a suspected after-prom party.
The initial Oak Park report did not identify the victims, name a suspect or provide a possible motive. Police asked anyone with information about Monday morning's shooting to contact investigators as detectives continue working to determine who fired the shots and why.
