An Oak Park family home became the scene of a violent knife attack Thursday night, authorities say, after a 40-year-old man allegedly went after his 80-year-old stepfather. Deputies found the older man bleeding on the living room floor and the suspect standing over him. The victim survived, but Chad Nelson remains in custody with bail set at $200,000.
According to NBC Los Angeles, a 70-year-old woman called 911 at about 8 p.m. to report that her adult son was attacking her husband with a knife inside a home on East Sunny Vista Avenue. Ventura County sheriff’s deputies arrived and found Nelson allegedly standing over the injured man.
Investigators said Nelson used an approximately 10-inch butcher knife taken from the kitchen. The stepfather was taken to a hospital with injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening, according to the report.
Felony Charges And Monday Court Appearance
Nelson was booked on felony allegations including assault with a deadly weapon, battery causing serious bodily injury and elder abuse. He is expected to appear in court Monday, while the case remains in its early stages.
The allegations involve an elderly victim, but no conviction has been entered. Nelson is presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
The injured stepfather reportedly told deputies, “You saved my life,” after they intervened. NBC Los Angeles reported that Nelson remained in custody as of Sunday.
