Olivia Rodrigo's Handmade 'The Cure' World Opens at Downtown LA's Grammy Museum

A miniature operating room built from cardboard and hand-painted details, felt human hearts, and the actual nurse costume Olivia Rodrigo wore on camera are heading to the Grammy Museum in Downtown Los Angeles. The museum will open “Olivia Rodrigo: The Cure Unraveled” with a Tuesday evening program on September 1, marking the singer's first dedicated multi-room exhibit at the venue and running through February 22, 2027.

According to MyNewsLA.com, the exhibition offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Rodrigo's “The Cure” music video, in which she searches for an antidote to her feelings inside a handmade hospital while experimenting on felt human hearts. The video, directed by Cat Solen and Jaime Gerin, leaned on miniatures, animatronic heart puppets and stop-motion animation to build that world, and production designer Liam Moore covered nearly every surface and object on set with cardboard and hand-painted details, per the same account.

“The Cure” is drawn from Rodrigo's third studio album, *You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love*, which Geffen Records released on June 12 and which debuted at No. 1 in more than 20 countries, according to Wikipedia. The song itself came out as the album's second single back on May 22.

Handwritten Art and a Nurse Costume on Display

The show will display handwritten and hand-stitched artwork used for the album's art and packaging alongside original storyboards, behind-the-scenes photographs, and interactive photo opportunities for visitors, MyNewsLA.com reports. Rodrigo's nurse costume from the video is also part of the display, giving fans a close-up look at the wardrobe built for the handmade hospital set.

Grammy Museum Associate Curator Kelsey Goelz, who curated the exhibit, said it highlights DIY and handcrafted artistry, per the outlet's report. Goelz has previously curated major museum shows including “The Power of Women in Country Music” and “TAEMIN: Performer. Artist. Icon.,” according to the Grammy Museum.

Rodrigo herself called the collaboration a full circle moment, saying the Grammy Museum is the perfect place to feature pieces from the “The Cure” video, per the article. She added that an expanded version of the exhibition will later add special items from the past decade of her career that she has never shown before, though museum officials have not yet announced further details on that rollout.

A Cardboard Hospital Meets a Career-Spanning Sequel

Museum officials said that expanded exhibition, which will include previously unseen artifacts from Rodrigo's career, is set to debut in early fall, with specifics still to come. The Tuesday program marking the initial launch will feature Rodrigo in conversation with filmmaker and author Cameron Crowe, followed by a live performance, and it will take place in the museum's 200-seat Clive Davis Theater at L.A. Live, per MyNewsLA.com's reporting.

That intimate scale is a contrast to Rodrigo's touring schedule. It's also not her first time at that stage: she appeared there in October 2023 for a “The Drop” program celebrating her sophomore album *GUTS*, a conversation moderated by songwriter Linda Perry that also included a short live performance, according to the Grammy Museum.

Rodrigo's relationship with the Recording Academy runs deeper still. She holds 14 career Grammy nominations and three wins, all earned at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards in 2022 for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album for *SOUR*, and Best Pop Solo Performance for “drivers license,” as Forbes notes. She was just 19 at the time of those wins.

Presale Access and Rodrigo's Packed SoCal Stretch

Ahead of the public opening, American Express cardholders will get early access to the September 1 program, with presale tickets available starting Friday at 10:30 a.m. Pacific through Saturday, before general admission opens, according to BroadwayWorld. Attendees at the launch event will receive early access to the exhibition itself before its wider public opening, per MyNewsLA.com's account.

The exhibit's debut also lands squarely inside a concentrated Southern California stretch for Rodrigo. Two days before the Grammy Museum program, she headlines the all-women Daisy Chain Fields festival at Irvine's Great Park on August 29 alongside Stevie Nicks and Mitski, a show Hoodline previously covered. A portion of proceeds from her August single “SERENA JOY” supports the festival's foundation.

From there, Rodrigo heads into her 86-date global Unraveled Tour, which kicks off September 25 at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Connecticut, and runs through May 2027, according to Ticketmaster. The tour's name is pulled from lyrics in “The Cure.” Demand has already been intense enough that Ticketmaster recovered a large volume of scalped tour tickets in August that violated purchasing limits, reissuing them directly to verified fans at face value, as VICE reported, echoing similar ticket-review delays used during her 2024 GUTS World Tour.

Physical media has been part of the album's rollout too. Its June release brought nearly 200 independent record store midnight sales across the country, representing the largest Record Store Day-organized midnight sale event in at least a decade, according to Record Store Day reporting cited by BroadwayWorld — a DIY instinct that mirrors the exhibit's own focus on hand-stitched artwork and stop-motion craftsmanship.
