Person Killed in Rollover on SR-215 Near March Air Reserve Base

A person was killed early Sunday when a vehicle overturned onto its side near the center divider on southbound State Route 215 at Cactus Avenue, just outside March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County. The single-vehicle crash was reported around 3:40 a.m., and all southbound lanes were shut down by 3:51 a.m. while investigators worked the scene.

According to the MyNewsLA.com report, the California Highway Patrol said a person was killed in the crash, and a Riverside County coroner's office representative was dispatched to the scene at 4:02 a.m. Authorities said no other immediate information was available, including details on the victim's identity or what caused the vehicle to overturn.

A Freeway Interchange With a Troubled History

The crash occurred on Cactus Avenue near March Air Reserve Base. The corridor has seen repeated severe collisions in recent months. In January, a wrong-way driver entered southbound I-215 at that same Cactus Avenue interchange in Moreno Valley, triggering a fatal head-on crash near Central Avenue in Riverside, as reported by MyNewsLA.com at the time.

In June, a fatal crash near 2nd Street and Z Street just outside the base claimed the life of an American Forces Network employee who had sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound, prompting the Moreno Valley Investigation Bureau to take over the case and investigate the shooting and crash, Hoodline previously reported. That case remains separate from Sunday's rollover, but both incidents underscore how frequently this stretch of freeway near the base has turned deadly this year.

A Rough Stretch for Riverside County Freeways

Sunday's crash also follows a string of other fatal rollovers in the region. Just days earlier, a 24-year-old Moreno Valley woman was ejected and killed in a rollover crash on the Perris freeway, and in June, a 17-year-old was ejected and killed in a Tesla guardrail crash — both incidents previously covered by Hoodline.

Regionally, Sunday's crash adds to a grim roadway-safety backdrop, though it is not yet known whether speed played any role in Sunday's collision.
