A family gathering held after a funeral in Philadelphia's East Germantown turned into a late-night fight that left three people injured, including a 14-year-old boy. The teenager and a 35-year-old man were stabbed multiple times while trying to intervene, police said. All three victims were in stable condition Saturday, and no arrests had been made.
Officers were called to the 2100 block of West Grange Avenue around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, according to 6abc Philadelphia. Police said a 32-year-old woman at the gathering got into an argument that escalated into a fight involving her boyfriend's sister, a 37-year-old woman, and two other family members. The dispute unfolded after the funeral gathering, adding a grim turn to what had been a family event.
During the fight, a firearm was displayed, and the 32-year-old woman was struck several times in the head with it, leaving lacerations and a cut on her left finger. Her 35-year-old boyfriend and her 14-year-old son were stabbed multiple times when they tried to step in. The three victims drove themselves to Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital for treatment and were listed in stable condition.
Police Recovered A Seven-Inch Knife
Investigators recovered a 7-inch knife from the scene, but police had not announced an arrest as of Saturday afternoon. Authorities had not publicly identified a suspect or explained what sparked the argument, leaving the circumstances of the fight under investigation.
Another Germantown Fight Escalated To Gunfire This Summer
The incident follows other violent confrontations in Germantown this summer, though the cases are not necessarily connected. In June, Hoodline reported on a Germantown fight that escalated into gunfire on Manheim Street; police said no one was injured and later sought help identifying three people seen in surveillance video.
