Potbelly is bringing its toasted sandwiches, salads and hand-dipped shakes to Marysville next month, with a new corporate-owned shop set to open in the Coleman's Crossing area near U.S. Routes 33 and 36. The Chicago-based sandwich chain will hold a grand opening celebration from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, September 1, complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a Perks Plinko game offering shots at Potbelly prizes and merchandise. The first 50 guests through the door that morning will walk away with free Potbelly for a year.

The new shop, located at 755 Coleman's Crossing Blvd., Suite A, will serve oven-toasted sandwiches, fresh salads, hand-dipped shakes and freshly baked cookies, according to WhatNow. Customers will be able to order for dine-in, delivery, pickup and catering through the restaurant, its website or the Potbelly app, and the location will offer third-party delivery as well. Once open, the store will run daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“Potbelly hopes to become a go-to spot for locals,” said Ebou Jagne, who added that the company is “looking forward to becoming part of the Marysville neighborhood,” per WhatNow's report. The Marysville shop is part of Potbelly's continued growth in Central Ohio, adding to a footprint that already includes more than 20 shops across Ohio. Founded in Chicago in 1977, Potbelly now counts more than 465 U.S. shops systemwide, including over 105 franchised locations.

A Corporate Owner Betting Big on Growth

The Marysville opening comes less than a year after Atlanta-based convenience retail giant RaceTrac completed a $566 million all-cash acquisition of Potbelly, taking the sandwich chain private and pulling its shares off the Nasdaq, according to Mass Market Retailers. Since that deal closed, the sandwich chain has projected 50 new store openings in 2026 as part of a national strategy to grow from more than 460 locations toward a long-term goal of exceeding 2,000 stores nationwide, per Restaurant Dive. Potbelly stores maintain an average unit volume of roughly $1.3 million in annual sales, with mobile and digital ordering now accounting for more than 40% of overall transactions, the company's franchising arm has reported.

Central Ohio has been a particular focus of that expansion. Florida-based Royal Restaurant Group signed a 40-unit franchise deal with Potbelly back in October 2023 that included plans to open 17 new sandwich shops across the greater Columbus area over eight years, as reported by Restaurant Business. Potbelly also re-entered the Ohio State University market in January 2025, opening a location at 2108 N. High Street in Columbus and donating 15% of grand opening weekend sales to the campus food pantry, according to 614NOW.

Why Marysville, Why Now

Marysville sits in Union County, which experienced a 35% population increase between 2015 and 2025, making it the fastest-growing county in Ohio, according to USAFacts. Marysville's own population reached an estimated 31,130 residents in 2026, a 21% jump from the 25,710 residents counted in the 2020 U.S. Census, per World Population Review. That growth has turned the Coleman's Crossing corridor into a magnet for national retail brands.

The strip center hosting the new Potbelly offers 6,800 square feet of Class A retail space and sits directly adjacent to a new residential apartment development of more than 300 units, according to CommercialSearch. The retail strip also sits near major anchors including Meijer, Home Depot and Walmart. To keep pace with rising traffic along the corridor, the City of Marysville began capital improvements in May 2025 to build a new roundabout at the intersection of Coleman's Crossing Boulevard and Industrial Parkway, a project that also includes drainage and pedestrian safety upgrades.

Part of a Broader Regional Push

The Marysville opening lands amid a wider wave of investment tied to Potbelly's parent company. RaceTrac announced plans in first Columbus-area travel centers in West Jefferson and Canal Winchester, part of a convenience store network that spans more than 800 locations across the Sun Belt and Midwest. Potbelly has also been opening shops in other fast-growing suburban markets nationwide, including recent launches near a busy corner in St. Louis and alongside a Trader Joe's in McKinney, Texas.
