A person was killed early Saturday when a vehicle crashed, overturned and caught fire on a Long Beach freeway connector. The single-vehicle wreck happened before dawn on the transition road linking the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway to the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway.
The crash was reported at about 3:55 a.m., according to MyNewsLA, citing the California Highway Patrol. Investigators said the vehicle struck a center divider before overturning and catching fire, but authorities had not released the victim’s identity or additional details about what led to the collision.
Connector Closed For Morning Crash Investigation
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 4:19 a.m. to close the transition road while crews and investigators worked at the scene. The alert was canceled at 7:44 a.m., meaning the closure lasted through the early-morning travel period but did not remain in place into the day.
The deadly wreck follows another fatal incident on a Long Beach freeway transition road. In September 2025, a pedestrian was found dead along the connector between the northbound 405 and northbound 710 freeways, and the roadway was closed for about three and a half hours, the Long Beach Post reported.
No further information about Saturday’s victim, the vehicle or possible contributing factors was immediately available. The CHP is expected to determine why the vehicle left the roadway as the collision investigation continues, according to MyNewsLA.
