A man was shot and killed early Tuesday near Meridian Hill Park in Northwest Washington, turning a predawn stretch of 15th Street into a homicide scene. Police are investigating, but the initial account offered few details about what led to the gunfire.
Officers responded to the 2600 block of 15th Street Northwest around 4:38 a.m. and found the man suffering from gunshot wounds, according to WJLA's report. First responders found no signs of life and pronounced him dead at the scene.
MPD Opens Homicide Investigation Near The Park
The Metropolitan Police Department is treating the shooting as a homicide. The initial public account did not include the victim's identity, a suspect description or a possible motive.
The shooting came as the District's preliminary year-to-date homicide count stood at 63 as of midnight Tuesday, according to MPD's crime dashboard. That was 35% below the 97 homicides recorded at the same point in 2025, although reported assaults with a dangerous weapon were up 42% and total violent crime was up 3%.
