Punta Gorda’s hotel scene just got a practical new workhorse: My Place Hotels has opened its first Florida property, a 63-room extended-stay hotel serving the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda market. The new lodging option is designed for travelers who need more than a bed and less than a long-term lease, with in-room kitchens and laundry aimed at stays that stretch beyond a weekend. It also marks the first new property to enter the submarket in more than five years.
The My Place Hotel is located along the I-75 corridor at Kings Highway, connecting the area’s travel flow between Fort Myers and Tampa. As reported by Hotel Business, the property is one of only two extended-stay options serving the submarket, which also draws airport travelers, relocating families and workers on longer projects.
The opening is getting a local welcome almost immediately. The Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a grand-opening ribbon-cutting for Thursday, with the ceremony set for 4:30 p.m. during an event running from 4 to 6 p.m.
A Hotel Built For Longer Stays
On its property listing, My Place Hotels says each room includes a kitchen area with a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Guests also get access to on-site laundry, a 24-hour grab-and-go market, free Wi-Fi, parking, a business center and pet-friendly accommodations.
That mix makes this less of a splashy beach-resort arrival than a straightforward home base for people passing through or temporarily putting down roots. The brand’s format is especially suited to guests who want to cook, wash clothes and settle in without treating every night like a hotel-room pit stop.
“Extended-stay demand in this market has outpaced supply for years,” Legacy Management EVP Tony Lunzman said, according to Hotel Business. The company specifically identified airport travelers, relocating families and project crews staying for weeks as part of the hotel’s target market.
Years In The Making Along I-75
The project has been moving through local development channels for several years rather than appearing overnight. A Charlotte County site-plan document describes a 63-room hotel on roughly 1.28 acres within the Sandhill Development of Regional Impact.
For Punta Gorda, the immediate payoff is a new lodging option in a corridor already built around access, errands and regional travel. The hotel’s first Florida opening also gives the area a small but visible role in My Place Hotels’ broader expansion across the state.
