A Raleigh driver veered off a residential road Sunday morning, cut through a wooded area, and slammed into the side of a house, leaving a four-foot hole in the wall. The driver was hospitalized with injuries police described as non-life-threatening, while the residents were able to remain in the home.
The crash happened around 11 a.m. in a cul-de-sac off Snowy Range Road near Buffaloe Road, according to WRAL. Raleigh police said the vehicle left the road, traveled through the woods, and struck the side of the house.
Crash Happened Near A City-Flagged High-Crash Area
The crash occurred near a part of northeast Raleigh with broader traffic-safety concerns. A City of Raleigh traffic memo lists Buffaloe Road at New Hope Road as the city’s top-ranked vehicle-crash intersection, although Sunday’s wreck happened on a nearby residential street rather than at that intersection.
Another Raleigh Home Was Hit Last Month
The unusual crash follows another recent Raleigh incident in which a vehicle ended up at a residence. ABC11 reported that an activity bus struck several parked vehicles and a utility pole before crashing into a vacant home in July; the driver was later charged with driving while impaired.
Sunday’s crash left the home with a roughly four-foot-wide opening, but officials said the residents did not need to leave, WRAL reported. Raleigh police are still investigating what caused the driver to lose control, and no additional details about possible citations or charges were immediately released.
