Temperatures are expected to climb to about 97 degrees, with humidity pushing the heat index as high as 102. A chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after 3 p.m., bringing a weather wildcard to the evening commute and outdoor plans.
Storms Could Bring Briefly Dangerous Gusts
The National Weather Service says storms will be isolated to scattered, but a few could produce strong to damaging wind gusts as they move through central North Carolina. Rain chances rise from roughly 15% in midafternoon to about 30% later Tuesday, with rainfall generally expected to stay below a tenth of an inch. Storms may continue into Tuesday night before ending around 2 a.m.
Raleigh’s low should settle near 73 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. The formal Heat Advisory issued Tuesday covers Sampson County rather than Wake County, but the National Weather Service still warns that heat illness is possible for people without adequate cooling and hydration.
Heat Hangs On Through Friday
The hot stretch is not leaving after one day. Wednesday should reach about 95 degrees with another afternoon storm chance, followed by mostly sunny skies and highs near 97 on Thursday and Friday.
Raleigh may finally get a modest break this weekend, with Saturday’s high near 89 and Sunday’s near 92. Both days remain mostly sunny, though a slight chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms sticks around.
Keep Outdoor Plans Flexible
Drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and keep an eye on children, older adults and pets during the hottest part of the day. Raleigh officials advise residents to use libraries, community centers and other cooled spaces when needed, and to check Wake County for cooling-center information through the city’s heat safety guidance.
