The National Weather Service in Raleigh advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, limit time in the afternoon sun and check on relatives and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to heat illness. Winds will remain light from the west at 1 to 6 mph, offering little relief during the hottest part of the day.
Friday Brings More Heat And A Better Storm Chance
Thursday night will stay muggy, with a low near 76 and an isolated rain shower possible between 8 and 9 p.m. Friday will be nearly as hot, reaching about 97 degrees with heat index values up to 108.
Storm chances increase Friday afternoon and evening, especially after 2 p.m. The weather service says some severe weather is possible, with damaging wind the primary concern, so outdoor plans may need a backup option.
Brief Saturday Break Fades By Monday
Saturday offers a modest break as the high drops to around 93 degrees, although scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible after 2 p.m. Sunday turns mostly sunny and warmer again, with a high near 95.
The heat builds back toward the start of next week, reaching about 100 degrees Monday before more afternoon and evening storms become possible. Raleigh’s heat-safety guidance notes that Wake County operates cooling centers during extreme heat; residents should check for current locations before heading out.
