Atlanta is about to get a rare classic-rock reunion, with Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman bringing The Guess Who back to the city under the name they helped make famous. The Canadian rock veterans will perform Thursday at Synovus Bank Amphitheater, marking a major return after years of legal and lineup confusion. For fans who bought records instead of streaming playlists, this is the version of the band they have been waiting to see.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the show begins at 7:30 p.m., with tickets listed from $30 for general admission and $54.50 for reserved seats. The Alpharetta-area concert is part of the band’s “Takin’ It Back” tour, a name that is doing plenty of work here.
According to The Guess Who’s official website, Cummings and Bachman are touring together as The Guess Who for the first time in 23 years. The U.S. leg also features former Eagles guitarist Don Felder and includes stops in cities ranging from Chicago and Detroit to Los Angeles and Seattle.
The Associated Press says the duo’s last U.S. tour under the Guess Who name was in 2001. Their planned set is expected to run about 20 songs and include staples such as “American Woman,” “These Eyes,” “No Time” and “Hand Me Down World.”
Atlanta has a little history with both men. Bachman previously brought Bachman-Turner Overdrive through local clubs, while Cummings performed at Chastain Park Amphitheater in 1992 with Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band, according to the AJC.
The Guess Who Name Fight Finally Ends
The reunion follows a long-running dispute over who could use the band’s name. Cummings and Bachman spent years performing together as Bachman-Cummings while another lineup toured as The Guess Who, sometimes without either of the men most closely associated with the group’s biggest recordings.
The band’s official biography says Cummings and Bachman sued after hearing from fans who believed they were attending shows featuring the original stars. The pair accused the other lineup of using the group’s records and history to promote concerts, allegations that were disputed by the other side.
Bloomberg Law reported that the dispute was settled in 2024, with Cummings and Bachman acquiring The Guess Who trademark while other settlement details remained confidential. That agreement cleared the way for the two principal songwriters to reclaim the name and launch the current tour.
Ticketmaster lists Thursday’s show at 7:30 p.m. at Synovus Bank Amphitheater at Chastain Park and notes that the concert is rain or shine. The venue also lists a no-table setup, with coolers and carry-ins prohibited, so fans may want to leave the picnic gear at home and bring their best air-guitar form instead.
