A five-acre sunflower field is turning a Richland farm into one of Southwest Michigan’s brightest summer destinations, with wagon rides, photo stops and flowers visitors can cut themselves. The annual celebration is underway now, and guests can leave with anything from a single bloom to a mason jar packed with color.
Sunflower Days began last Thursday at Gull Meadow Farms and is running across three Thursday-through-Sunday stretches, according to MLive. The event features more than two dozen varieties of sunflowers and zinnias, with a tractor-drawn wagon carrying visitors to the fields at the back of the property.
What A Sunflower Days Ticket Gets You
Gull Meadow Farms says its admission package includes a wagon ride, access to the sunflower field, photo opportunities, family activities and one u-cut sunflower. The farm’s online ticket page lists admission at $16.98 including the ticket fee, while an admission package with a mason jar for blooms is listed at $27.97.
The event is designed to keep the camera roll busy, too. Discover Kalamazoo describes a family activity area, petting farm, wagon rides and photo stations scattered through the fields, making the outing part flower walk and part outdoor photo set.
Visitors can also branch out beyond the sunflowers. MLive’s coverage notes that Gull Meadow Farms added gladiolus for the first time this year, alongside its zinnias and sunflower varieties.
Adult-Only Sips And Stems Nights Are Next
For a more grown-up version of the flower-field excursion, Gull Meadow Farms is holding Sips + Stems on Thursday and Friday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. The adult-only event lets guests stroll the fields with a farm-brewed hard cider, wine or fresh-squeezed lemonade, according to the farm’s special-events calendar.
Sunflower Days is weather- and crop-dependent, so field conditions may change as the season moves along. The farm recommends checking its visitor guidance before heading out, especially since the fields have limited shade and the paths can become muddy after rain.
