A 23-year-old Riegelwood woman allegedly drove 100 mph through a highway work zone while fleeing Columbus County deputies, according to court records. The pursuit reportedly included oncoming traffic, a blown stop sign and a turn onto a closed, barricaded roadway.
Tori Vanette Langdon was arrested last Wednesday after a deputy attempted to stop a red 2024 Chevrolet Malibu valued at about $25,000, according to WXII 12. Deputies accuse her of taking the vehicle and then leading the chase along NC-87.
The Alleged Chase Unfolded On NC-87
The posted speed limit in the work zone was 55 mph, making the alleged 100-mph run nearly twice the limit. Langdon was also reportedly driving without a license, was not wearing a seat belt and entered oncoming traffic during the pursuit, court documents say.
The work zone was not incidental to the incident. NCDOT project documents list a section of NC-87 near Riegelwood as under construction for safety improvements, including rumble stripes and pavement markings.
Langdon Faces 10 Offenses
Langdon was charged with 10 offenses, including resisting a public officer after deputies said she refused to comply with lawful commands. The allegations also include running a stop sign and turning onto a closed road blocked by barricades.

Another Columbus County Pursuit Ended In Charges
The case follows another high-speed pursuit in Columbus County in May, when a woman allegedly fled a driver’s license checkpoint on Highway 74 and crashed, according to WECT. That driver faced charges including felony speeding to elude arrest, felony injury by vehicle and driving while impaired.
