A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized Friday night after a dog attacked her at Vista Grande Park in Rocklin. Her father said the child suffered serious facial injuries, including missing teeth. The attack unfolded as children were selling lemonade at the neighborhood park.
Officers responded to the park around 8:20 p.m., according to CBS Sacramento. The girl’s father, Vasiy Bardadian, said she had walked ahead of him when a pit bull attacked, while the dog was wearing a leash that no one was holding. Rocklin police confirmed the attack but have not released official details about the child’s injuries or why the dog was loose.
Bardadian said the dog bit his daughter in the face, including around her mouth and eye. He told CBS that she was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, including missing teeth. Authorities have not publicly identified the dog’s owner.
Rocklin Parks Ban Off-Leash Dogs
Rocklin’s rules require dogs to be leashed in public areas, including city parks, with the exception of the RRUFF dog park at Johnson-Springview Park. The City of Rocklin says dogs must be kept on leashes no longer than 6 feet and that violations may result in a citation and fine.
The city also says Rocklin Animal Control responds to loose or off-leash dogs and investigates animal-bite reports. As of Saturday, police had not said whether anyone would face charges or a citation in connection with the attack, and the investigation remained ongoing, CBS Sacramento reported.
