A 54-year-old Round Rock man died after his pickup truck left Hero Way and crashed through the parking lot of a Leander auto shop Friday morning, turning a routine start to the day into a fatal single-vehicle wreck.
The driver, identified as Jeremy Joseph Kemp, was the only person in the 2008 Chevrolet pickup, according to a Leander Police Department release. Emergency crews found him in critical condition and began life-saving measures before Williamson County EMS took him to a local hospital, where he later died. Police said no one else was injured.
Pickup Left Hero Way Before Striking Goodyear Building
Investigators said the truck was heading eastbound on Hero Way when it left the roadway near Broade Way, crossed a business parking lot and struck the Goodyear Auto Service building, causing structural damage. KEYE reported that the crash was called in just before 7:30 a.m. Friday and that Leander police, firefighters and Williamson County EMS responded.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the Leander Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Team is leading the case, officials said. No additional details about what may have caused Kemp to leave the roadway were released.
Hero Way Already Slated For Major Expansion
The fatal wreck happened along a corridor that is already facing major infrastructure changes. Hoodline reported that Williamson County and local officials began a roughly $132 million Hero Way overhaul this year, including plans to widen and realign part of the route and add a shared-use path.
