Sacramento wakes Wednesday to clear skies and temperatures near 60 degrees, but the valley will warm quickly toward an afternoon high near 90. The bigger shift arrives Thursday, when highs drop into the low 80s and a cooler, mostly sunny stretch settles over the city.
Warm Wednesday, Cooler Thursday
Wednesday will be partly sunny with south-southwest winds of 3 to 9 mph, and no rain is expected in Sacramento. The National Weather Service says the valley should stay dry while monsoonal moisture raises shower and thunderstorm chances in the Sierra foothills and crest.
Thursday looks mostly sunny with a high near 82 degrees. South-southwest winds of 7 to 10 mph could gust as high as 20 mph, making the cooler air noticeable after Wednesday's heat.
Fire Weather Concern In The Sierra
For Sacramento, rain chances remain near zero through the workweek. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Sierra elevations above 3,000 feet from late Wednesday night through Thursday evening, when a mix of wet and dry thunderstorms could bring lightning and erratic outflow gusts up to 35 mph.
Friday and Saturday stay sunny, with highs near 83 and 84 degrees and overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 50s. Sunday and Monday warm back toward 88, while Tuesday remains partly sunny near 88.
For city plans, Wednesday is the hottest day in the near-term forecast, while Thursday's roughly 8-degree drop should make outdoor errands and evening activities more comfortable. Mountain travelers should keep the Sierra fire-weather risk in mind even as Sacramento enjoys a dry forecast.
