A 16-year-old Edison High School student was assaulted Tuesday morning while walking home from a school event in San Antonio, and the person police believe entered an elevator with her remains at large. The incident has prompted increased patrols around the campus and nearby neighborhood as investigators work to determine whether she was followed.
San Antonio police responded just before 8:30 a.m. to the 500 block of Alametos Street after the girl called for help, according to KSAT. The preliminary report says she had entered an elevator when an unknown person got in and assaulted her. When the doors opened, she escaped and contacted police.
Police Checking Whether Student Was Followed
Interim Principal Irene Cruz told Edison families that officers are investigating whether the student may have been followed from campus, KSAT reported. SAPD conducted a search but did not find the suspect. San Antonio ISD district officers are assisting SAPD, and the case remains open.
Edison is a San Antonio ISD campus, according to the district’s official school page. Cruz said patrols were increased around the school and surrounding neighborhood after the assault, and she praised the student for reporting what happened. No arrest or public suspect description had been announced as of Friday.
