San Diego is starting today clear and around 72 degrees, with a warm, mostly sunny afternoon ahead and a high near 82. The coast may see a few low clouds around sunrise, but the gray should quickly lose its grip as sunshine takes over.
Sunny Weekend With Warm Nights
Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low near 70, followed by mostly sunny conditions tomorrow and a high around 83. Next Sunday should be slightly warmer, reaching about 84, while overnight temperatures remain near 70, warm enough that open windows may not feel like a complete cooling strategy.
Winds will remain generally light, ranging from calm to around 10 mph, and will turn west to northwest through the weekend. Rain is not expected in the city, although the National Weather Service San Diego says isolated showers or thunderstorms could develop over the mountains and high desert this afternoon.
Heat Builds Into Next Week
Mostly sunny skies continue next Monday, with a high near 84, before temperatures climb to about 86 next Tuesday through next Thursday. Overnight lows will remain unusually mild, mostly between 71 and 72 degrees, so the bigger story next week may be the lack of relief after sunset.
The most serious heat is expected east of the city. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 PM today for San Diego County deserts, the Coachella Valley and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning; anyone heading into those areas should limit prolonged midday activity, drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade.
