That was wrong. Hours later, the department's Information Bureau confirmed the deputy actually suffered only minor ankle injuries.
The solo crash happened at roughly 10:34 a.m. near 30773 San Francisquito Canyon Road, deep in the Angeles National Forest, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Signal. The confusion traces back to first responder radio traffic that initially requested a “critical roll” — a procedure in which officers block intersections to clear a path for an ambulance. That request was later canceled, but not before it fed early breaking-news alerts, including one from a Facebook post by Sheriff Deputies declaring the deputy in critical condition after what it called a training accident.
The real outcome was far less dire. An LASD Information Bureau official told the Signal the deputy suffered only minor ankle injuries and was transported by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel to a local hospital. He was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, which has served as the Santa Clarita Valley's designated Level II Trauma Center since 1984, per the same account.

For now, the department has confirmed the deputy is expected to recover from what officials describe as minor injuries, a sharp contrast to the critical-condition reports that briefly spread online Wednesday night.
