The player was taken directly for a CT scan upon arrival, and officials said no further information was immediately available.
According to CBS News Chicago, the Antioch Fire Department sent a medic crew onto the field after the player was hurt, with the call going out around 9 p.m. Community High School District 117 Superintendent Jeff Feucht confirmed the injured player was from Schaumburg school, though officials did not release the player's identity or the nature of his injury. The player was taken to Condell Medical Center in critical condition.
Emergency responders' initial plan was to airlift the player via a LifeNet medical helicopter, but that option was scrapped. Antioch Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Taylor said crews canceled the air transport because of estimated arrival times and local weather conditions, opting instead to transport the player by ground ambulance, according to the Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
Athletic Trainers and Medics Coordinated On the Field
Before the additional fire department resources and ground ambulance arrived, a standby non-transport medic crew from the Antioch Fire Department assessed the player on the field alongside athletic training staff from both Antioch High School and Schaumburg High School, the outlet reports. That joint response reflects the kind of rapid coordination between municipal EMS and school athletic staff that Illinois high schools are expected to maintain for game-day emergencies.
The Illinois High School Association requires all member schools hosting athletic practices and games to keep venue-specific Emergency Action Plans on file, detailing EMS vehicle access points, communication protocols, and assigned personnel roles for exactly this kind of scenario. Separately, the state's Youth Sports Concussion Safety Act requires public school districts to appoint Concussion Oversight Teams and mandates that coaches and officials complete certified concussion awareness training every two school terms, per the same account of state regulations.

The player was admitted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, the only designated Level 1 trauma center and pediatric emergency department in Lake County. That designation means the hospital provides round-the-clock coverage by general surgeons along with comprehensive specialty care for serious trauma cases.
It is not the first time this year that a Lake County-area high school football injury has ended with a trip to Condell. In November 2025, a 16-year-old player suffered a traumatic spinal injury during an IHSA playoff game at Richmond-Burton High School in neighboring McHenry County and was also airlifted to the same trauma center, the Scanner reported at the time.

After the player's emergency evacuation to the hospital around 9 p.m., the varsity game resumed and ultimately ended in a 34-29 victory for Antioch High School over Schaumburg High School, according to the Scanner's report. The matchup was a repeat of an August 2025 non-conference game between the two programs, which Antioch also won by the identical score of 34-29, per MaxPreps.
Schaumburg High School falls under Township High School District 211, headquartered in Palatine and serving communities across northwest Cook County including Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, and Palatine. Antioch Community High School is operated by Community High School District 117, based in Lake Villa, which also runs Lakes Community High School. District 117 officials have deferred further health updates on the player's condition to Schaumburg High School and District 211 in accordance with student privacy laws, and the player's specific diagnosis and current medical status remain unknown.
