A 30-foot power boat caught fire overnight at a Seattle marina, forcing crews to evacuate people from neighboring vessels and shove several boats away as firefighters worked to keep the blaze from jumping the docks. The fire was contained to the single vessel, according to the initial response update.
The Seattle Fire Department said crews responded in the 2600 block of West Marina Place, where they put water on the fire, searched adjacent boats and pushed several vessels away from the burning boat. The department identified the vessel as an approximately 30-foot power boat and said the fire was contained to one vessel.
Why A Single Burning Boat Can Threaten An Entire Marina
The response hinged on creating distance between the burning boat and its neighbors. Seattle Fire's marina safety guidance tells staff to evacuate boaters and guests, shut down electrical power near the fire and move adjacent boats away while making sure the burning vessel does not drift.
Seattle has seen how quickly a boat blaze can become a marina-wide emergency. In June 2025, a roughly 40-foot boat fire on Lake Union spread to the roof of an enclosed dock; crews protected nearby boats, deployed containment booms after the vessel sank and turned the scene over for salvage operations, according to the Seattle Fire Department's Fire Line report. Cause And Injuries Remain Unclear
The department's initial update did not identify a cause, report whether anyone was injured or provide an estimate of damage to the boat or surrounding marina. Crews' search of the adjacent vessels and evacuation effort indicate the immediate priority was keeping people out of harm's way and preventing the fire from spreading.
