SeaWorld Orlando is putting Sony Pictures Animation's Hotel Transylvania characters front and center at its Halloween Spooktacular for the first time this year, adding a monster-themed dance party and a separately ticketed character breakfast to its daytime fall lineup. The family-friendly event returns on select dates from August 29 through November 1, included with regular park admission, and folds the new licensed characters in alongside returning favorites like Spookley the Square Pumpkin and the Sesame Street gang.
SeaWorld Orlando announced that characters from Hotel Transylvania will debut at the annual Halloween Spooktacular, according to WKMG ClickOrlando. Mavis and Johnny will host the new Hotel Transylvania Dance Party, and the outlet reports that Drac and Mavis have transformed SeaWorld's Seafire Inn into the Monster Dread & Breakfast, a separately ticketed character dining experience. That breakfast includes a buffet, character meet-and-greets, dancing and immersive Hotel Transylvania-themed décor, per the same report.
The addition arrives as Sony's animated franchise continues to be a box-office heavyweight. Hotel Transylvania has grossed more than $1.3 billion globally across four feature films since its 2012 debut, according to Wikipedia, with a fifth theatrical movie scheduled for release in October 2027. The property has already made its way into permanent theme park attractions abroad — it inspired a trackless dark ride in the Columbia Pictures zone at Motiongate Dubai, which opened in 2016, according to Dubai Parks and Resorts.
What Else Is Included With Daytime Spooktacular
Beyond the new monster characters, the 2026 Spooktacular keeps its long list of daytime staples. Spookley the Square Pumpkin returns to the event, and the Sesame Street Halloween Parade features Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby and Count von Count, per WKMG ClickOrlando's report. The Scarecrow Halloween Dance Parade, a kid-friendly procession, takes place near Dolphin Stadium, while SeaWorld's Halloween Mermaids appear in the Key West area.
Families can also visit Big Bird's Nest for Storytime with Big Bird, or stop by the Pumpkin Garden & Storytime, which offers a whimsical garden and Halloween story readings throughout the day. A Spooky Bubble Trail includes Halloween surprises and appearances from Spooktacular pals, and the event allows guests of all ages to wear costumes — though guests aged 13 and older may not wear costume masks or hoods, the outlet notes.
Trick-Or-Treating And Allergy-Friendly Options
The Trick-or-Treat Trail spans 12 candy stations throughout the park and provides a reusable Spooktacular trick-or-treat bag, according to the report. For guests managing food allergies, the Teal Pumpkin program lets them collect teal tokens at candy stations and redeem allergy-friendly treats at Coconut Bay Traders. That system echoes the national Teal Pumpkin Project, which Food Allergy Research & Education launched in 2014 to promote non-food treats during trick-or-treating for the estimated 1 in 13 U.S. children with food allergies, according to CVS Health.
Seasonal Treats & Sips introduces new bites for the fall season, including the Mummy Dog — an all-beef hot dog wrapped in pretzel dough — and Trick-or-Treat Crunch popcorn, WKMG ClickOrlando reports. Spookley's presence at the park also carries a broader message beyond candy and costumes: the square pumpkin serves as the official spokesperson for PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center during October's National Bullying Prevention Month, according to PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center.
Daytime Frights Versus Nighttime Horror
SeaWorld Orlando has run the daytime Spooktacular since 2008 as a tradition included with regular admission, according to Orlando Informer. The park expanded its Halloween strategy in 2021 by launching Howl-O-Scream, a separately ticketed nighttime event aimed at mature audiences, per InPark Magazine. Hoodline previously reported on hook-wielding horror coming to that nighttime event, where SeaWorld Orlando unveiled the first-ever I Know What You Did Last Summer haunted house on August 3.
The dual approach lets SeaWorld market to families by day and thrill-seekers by night during the same fall season, with Howl-O-Scream this year debuting I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Final Catch — marking the first major theme park haunted house adaptation of the 1997 slasher film, according to Orlando Weekly.
Why SeaWorld Keeps Starting Halloween Early
SeaWorld's early rollout puts it in direct competition with Walt Disney World's Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights, as Central Florida's major theme parks begin Halloween events as early as late August, according to the Rosen Centre Hotel. Theme park Halloween events have evolved into primary revenue generators for Orlando operators, pushing parks to launch seasonal programming up to two full months before Halloween to maximize hotel bookings and multi-day visits, the same source notes.
The Hotel Transylvania debut also reflects a broader corporate shift. SeaWorld's parent company rebranded from SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. to United Parks & Resorts Inc. in February 2024 to reflect a wider portfolio of 13 parks across the U.S. and Abu Dhabi, according to Travel Weekly. Even as the corporate name moved away from an exclusive marine-life focus, individual park brands like SeaWorld Orlando remained unchanged, leaning instead on licensed film characters to freshen up long-running seasonal traditions.
